Long term plan 26 27.png

Our Topics

Each term we will have a different topic. This half term, our topic is ‘Seasons – Autumn’. We will be learning all about the changes that happen during the different seasons and exploring the world around us.

After the October half term, our topic will change to ‘Toys’, where the children will have the opportunity to explore toys from the past and present and develop their own creative ideas.

Literacy

In Literacy, one of our main focuses this term is developing the children's confidence in writing simple sentences independently. We will be working on remembering to:

· Start a sentence with a capital letter.

· Leave finger spaces between words.

· Finish a sentence with a full stop.

We have begun the year by reading Stuck by Oliver Jeffers. The children will explore the story, sequence events and create their own versions of the story.

We will then move on to The Leaf Thief, which will link beautifully with our Autumn topic. The children will learn about the changing seasons and will eventually create and write their own Autumn books.

After half term, our Toys topic will provide lots of opportunities for writing. The children will describe their favourite toys and develop their vocabulary through speaking and writing activities.

Maths

In Maths, we will be following the White Rose Maths programme. Our first units will focus on place value and understanding numbers, helping the children to develop a strong understanding of numbers and what they represent.

We will use practical resources, games and activities to help children develop their mathematical vocabulary and confidence when working with numbers.

Science

In Science, we will be learning all about our bodies and our senses. The children will explore the different parts of the body and investigate how our five senses help us to understand and explore the world around us.

Geography

Our Geography learning will link closely with our Autumn topic. We will be learning about the four seasons and different types of weather, observing how the weather changes and discussing how the seasons affect the world around us.
