Year 4 2026/27
Welcome to Year 4 -2026 - 2027
Welcome to our Year 4 webpage!
We are so excited for a wonderful year filled with learning, laughter, friendship and new adventures.
Year 4 is a special time for children to grow in confidence, become more independent and discover new things every day.
English
We develop reading, writing, speaking and listening through a wide range of texts and real-life writing purposes. Children explore instructions, balanced arguments, poetry, narratives, persuasive writing and different perspectives.
Mathematics
We develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills across place value, the four operations, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, measurement and other key Year 4 areas.
Science
Children investigate the world around them through practical scientific enquiries, including living things and habitats, states of matter, electricity, sound and the human body.
History
Our history learning takes children from the Industrial Revolution and Victorian Manchester to the Romans and Crime and Punishment, helping them understand how the past has shaped our world.
Geography
Children investigate food and farming, Rio and South East Brazil and the rainforest, developing their understanding of places, people and environments.
Religious Education
Children explore faith and important questions through themes including Creation and Covenant, Prophecy and Promise, Galilee to Jerusalem, Desert to Garden, To the Ends of the Earth and Dialogue and Encounter.
PSHE
We support children to become confident, resilient and caring individuals through learning about independence, relationships, respect, emotions, changing bodies, gratitude and community.
Art & DT
Children develop creativity through painting, mixed media, drawing, sculpture, textiles, cooking and design projects, including a Roman pavilion project.
Computing
Children develop digital skills through branching databases, repetition and forever loops, game design, special effects movies, smarter searching, online safety and pixel art.

• Please listen to your child read when possible and sign or comment in their reading record.
• Daily readers who read five times a week and have their records signed will receive a treat on Fridays.
• Please comment and sign at least once a week so we can monitor your child's progress.
Please remember to use reading vipers at least once a week to help with comprehension skills

Multiplication Tables Check

Throughout the year, we will practise regularly to help children build confidence and become quick and accurate with their multiplication facts.
