Maths at St Anne's
Our aim at St Anne's is to nurture our students to become confident, curious mathematicians who are able to use their mathematical skills and knowledge to help make sense of the world around them.
At St Anne's, we follow the 'White Rose' scheme of learning from Early Years through to Year 6. This scheme provides us with logical, sequential units of work which ensure that we meet every objective set out in the National Curriculum for Mathematics.
The children begin each year ensuring that their knowledge and understanding of place value is secure, before moving onto key topics such as 'addition and subtraction,' 'multiplication and division' where children build up their breadth of mathematical knowledge, before moving onto areas such as 'units of measure,' 'fractions and decimals' or 'shape'
Each unit ensures children have opportunities to embed their understanding through 'problem solving' activities, which allows them to apply what they have already learned to solve more complex problems.
