Year 2 2026/27

Autumn 2026

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2! Here you will find some information about what we are up to in class. We’re always busy!

The children love to be our prayer person and lead the prayers for the day.

Our Class prayers are:

Each term, we will be working on a different topic. Our first topic is World War Two.

In History we are learning about the war and find out about jobs people did during the war and what it was like to be an evacuee. We had a very special delivery – a huge box! It was full of items that we hadn’t seen before. We thought about what they might be and eventually we decided that it might be something to do with a war…

In Geography we will use our map skills to find places related to World War Two and how landscapes changed because of the war.

In Literacy we will be reading lots of books around our WW2 theme, such as ‘Please Write Soon’ by Michael Rosen, and ‘The Lion and the Unicorn’ by Shirley Hughes.

We will be using these books as inspiration to write letters and write our own stories. We are working through the writing process and doing lots of research and drama to help us.

We are using White Rose maths to learn about Number, Place value, Addition and Subtraction.

We will be using a new PSHE curriculum called Ten Ten: Life to the Full and we will be thinking about transitions, perseverance and resilience.

In RE we are learning about Branch 1 of the Religious education directory - Creation and Covenant.

Our Computing topic is ‘What is a Computer?’ finding out about the uses of computers in our everyday life.

In Art we are looking at colour theory and the concept of secondary colours.

In Science we will look at ‘Animals and humans and what they need to survive’.

In PE we will work on Fundamental movement skills – Body Control and Yoga. PE will be every Tuesday and Wednesday. PE kit consists of a white T-shirt, black shorts/bottoms and trainers. May we also remind you that jewellery is not allowed in school with children able to wear stud earrings only.
