Early Years 2025/26
Welcome to our class page for Nursery and Reception!
"God said... And it was so. God saw everything that He had made, and behold it was very good." Genesis 1:1-31.
In Autumn 1, we learned about how God created our world and everyone in it because He loves us! We enjoyed playing and exploring in the different areas in our setting, both indoors and outdoors. We've also been developing our fine and gross motor skills through mark-making, painting, moulding, cutting, riding bikes, dancing, and building. We have also been exploring how numbers and shapes are all around us. What a wonderful world our God has made!
Developing A Love for Books
We enjoy exploring a new book together in class each week to help us develop a lifelong love of reading and writing. Sharing stories helps us build imagination, language, and joy in books!
This term, we will be reading: Owl Babies, Whatever Next, Stick Man, Pick a Pine Tree, Dear Santa, A Very Noisy Christmas, and The Christmas Surprise.
In Phonics...
Nursery will be learning about People Who Help Us! We’ll discover more about the amazing people in our community who make Manchester such a special place to live. In Phonics (Phase 1), we’ll be tuning into sounds all around us — listening carefully, joining in with rhymes, and exploring how different sounds help us talk and understand one another.
Reception is building on all the wonderful learning from Nursery. We’re reviewing our Phase 2 sounds — practising blending and segmenting words to become confident, independent readers.
(See image above of our Level 2 sounds. Click this link to hear these sounds and see which actions go with them. )
In Maths...
Nursery will be practising counting, showing, moving, labelling, taking and giving 1, 2, and 3. We’ll also explore positions and routes as we move around our indoor and outdoor spaces.
Reception will be subitising (recognising small amounts without counting), finding one more and one less, composing numbers to 5, and exploring shapes with four sides.
In R.E...
We'll be following Branch 2 or our "To Know You More Dearly" programme, learning about the Prophecy and Promise of our Lord Jesus Christ through the Annunciation (the good news delivered to the virgin Mary) and the Nativity (the story of Jesus' birth).
We will also learn that as God has loved us by sending His Son, so we are to love others.
Coming Up...
Nursery and Reception will be performing a Nativity play to celebrate Christmas. Keep an eye out on Dojo for when this will be!
In Computing and PSHE...
We'll begin to learn about what the internet is and how to play safely online, as well as who our trusted adults are.

What do you think will happen next?
How do you think this character is feeling?
What was your favourite part of the story? Why?
Can you find something in the picture that starts with the same sound as your name?
Who helped someone in this story?
What did you learn from this book?
Can you tell me what happened at the beginning, middle, and end?
Thank you very much for your support. We look forward to another term of learning together!
Kind regards,
Mrs. Manock, Mrs. Khoo, Mrs. Suleman, Mrs. Haque, and Ms. Kerr
